Eustace Families of County Longford: A Chronology

Alive early to mid-1700:

·         Bridg Ustice, born about 1700, died January 27, 1767 at about age 67; buried Ballymacormack Cemetery, Longford ;

·         Mary Ustice, born about 1718, died September 29, 1764 at about age 46; buried Ballymacormack Cemetery, Longford ;

·         John Ustice, Age on headstone is listed as 38 in 1760’s; buried Ballymacormack Cemetery, Longford ;

·         Edward Ustice, Erected the monument late 1760’s.

 

Alive mid to late 1700’s:

·         Grace Newcomen alias Eustace, born about 1748, died October 9, 1811 of Clonahard Townland, aged 63,  buried October 12, 1811 in Protestant Cemetery, Longford; also her children:

Grace Newcomen-7 years old, youngest daughter of William Newcomen & Grace Coffy?, wife alias Eustace buried April 24, 1797.

Juliet Newcomen, aged 18, daughter of William Newcomon & Grace his wife alias Eustace; buried November 1, 1797.

 

Alive late 1700’s to early 1800’s:

·         Mary Eustace married Cornelius/Conrad/Condy Rogers before 1802. Mary and Cornelius Rogers were the parents of;

o        Mary Rogers, baptized March 13, 1802;

o        Edward Rogers, baptized Aug. 8, 1804;

o        Elizabeth Rogers, baptized Dec. 23, 1806;

o        William Rogers, baptized Aug. 13, 1809.

·         Bridget Eustace, sponsor for Patt McGuire, son of James and Jane McGuire baptized February 20, 1802.

·         Bridget Eustace (perhaps same as above) married Edward McDaniel on 21 May 1802 at Longford (Roman Catholic). Witnesses; Robert Ferall and Thomas Carigan. Bridget Eustace and Edmund/Edward McDaniel were the parents of at least three children all baptized at Templemichael (Roman Catholic) Parish:

o        James McDaniel, baptized on February 6, 1809; 

o        Mary McDaniel , baptized on Feb. 26, 1810;

o        Elenor McDaniel, baptized July 15, 1811;  

·         Catherine Eustace married Denis Harrington before 1802. Their son Maurice was baptized on November 28, 1802 at Templemichael (Catholic) Parish;

·         Mary Eustace married Thomas St. John at Longford on 29 September 1802. Witnesses Thomas Reilly and Catherine Conboy.

·         Mary Eustace married Thomas McCawley before 1803. Their daughter Rose was baptized on May 27, 1803 at Templemichael (Catholic) Parish;

·         Edward Eustace was the sponsor for Daniel (Drievan ?) son of Owen and Anne Kennedy., baptized Nov. 3, 1805;

·         Jane Eustace married James Murphy before 1807. Their daughter Jane was baptized December 20, 1807 at Longford (Church of Ireland).

·         Mary Eustace married Michael Maguire at Longford (RC) on 24 June 1808. Witnesses Hugh Hagarty and Catherine Maher.

·         Bridget Eustace was the sponsor for James Corrigan, son of Thomas Corrigan and Ellen Sharwan.

·         Thomas Eustace married Rose Clendinnen before 1812. They were parents of William Eustace born December 18, 1812 and baptized December 20, 1812 at Longford (Church of Ireland).

·         John Eustace married Sara McKiernan at Longford (R.C.) on 6 April 1820. Witnesses John Cummins and James Winne. They were the parents of the following children baptized at Longford:

o        Catherine Eustace, baptized April 7, 1822; Sponsors were John McCormack and Brigid McKiernan.

o        Brigid Eustace, baptized April 25, 1824; Sponsors were William Wilson and Brigid Dinniston.

·         Patrick Eustace married Catherine Cunningham during the early 1820s (No record found). They lived at Collum Townland, Newtowncashel Parish. Patrick was a brother to James Eustace (above) who married Brigid Kennedy, Bridget Eustace (ca. 1802-ca.1855) who married William Carroll, and John Eustace.  Catherine Cunningham Eustace died at Victory Mills, New York on -----. Bridget and John emigrated to Schuylerville, New York and James went to Mapleton, Waukesha County, Wisconsin where he died in 1855.

 Luke (Laurence) Eustace and his wife Brigid Gibbons lived at Gorteenclareen (Gurteen) near Ballymahon from as early as the 1820s (when parish records begin) until at least 1854. (No marriage record found perhaps because the marriage occurred before records began).

·

Children of Luke Eustace and Bridget Gibbon:

  • James Eustace, baptized on August 7, 1822. Sponsors were Daniel Malone and his wife.

  • John Eustace, baptized March 15, 1826. Sponsors John Eustace and Bridget Geraghty.

  • Michael Eustace, baptized at Shrule September 27, 1831. Sponsors were Mathew Regan & Anne Geraghty

  • Anne Eustace, baptized May 8, 1833. Sponsors were Patrick Eustace and Margaret Ryan.

  • Margaret Eustace, baptized December 11, 1835. Sponsors were Matthew Ryan and Mathe Cunningham.

  • Philip Eustace (son of Philip (Luke?) Eustace & Bridget Gibbon) baptized October 13, 1838. Sponsors were Michael Malone and Margaret Casey.

  • Eleanor Eustace, baptized September 26, 1840. Sponsors were Patrick Gerraghty and Margaret Havican.

·         Luke Eustace married Mary Smith before 1825. They were the parents of Mary Eustace, baptized February 4, 1825; Sponsors were N. Kane and Mary Lennon.

·         James Eustace married Brigid Kennedy at Longford (R.C.) (Ballymacormack) on 8 February 1829. Witnesses: James McGee and Chaterine (Catherine) Dowd

·         William Eustes (Eustace) married Helen Bestick at Longford (R.C.) on 7 May 1830. Witnesses William Slavin and Catherine Murrey. They were the parents of the following:

o        Ann Eustace, baptized December 8, 1837, Sponsors James Wynn and Mary Rollinston.

o        William Eustan, baptized October 19, 1839; Sponsors Thomas Wynne and Elenor Wynne.

o        Catherine Eustace, baptized November 5, 1841; Sponsors Francis Bestic and Ann Beste.

o        William Eustace, baptized December 22, 1846; Sponsors Thomas Bestick and Catherine Gannon (Re-entered 2001).

 

Alive late 1800’s and early 1900’s :

·         Elizabeth Eustace (of Drumnsna, County Leitrim) married John Smith (of Clonbroney) married on 24 January 1913 at Longford. Witnesses: Patrick Eustace and Catherine (last name not recorded).

·         Patrick Eustace, was a witness at wedding of Elizabeth Eustace of Drumsna, Co. Leitrim and John Smith of Clonbroney on January 24, 1913 at Longford.
