Patrick Lang (1809-1891) & Mary Catherine "Kate" Fallon

PATRICK LANG. Born in 1809 in County Sligo, Ireland. In 1844, he was living in the townland of Kinagrelly near Coolaney, County Sligo when his son Thomas was baptized. He and his brothers Andrew and Michael, and their sister, Winifred, came to the United States in 1847 and settled at Eldorado near Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He married Mary Catherine “Kate” Fallon in Ireland. Patrick and his family lived at Waseca and Owatonna, Minnesota where his children settled. Sometime before 1880, he moved back to Wisconsin. The 1880 US census shows Patrick Lang, widower, age 64, living in Rosendale Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin with his sister Winnie Crane (a widow) and her children, Ann, Ellen, Mark and Kate. Patrick Lang died in 1891 at the age of 62 (note descrepancy of age), at the home of his sister Winifred, (Mrs. Mark Crain), and is buried near El Dorado, Wisconsin.
A. Thomas Lang was born in the townland of Kinagrelly near Coolaney, County Sligo and baptized February 12, 1844 in the Parish of Ballysadare & Kilvarnet, County Sligo. The baptismal record (Book # 1, page 22, entry 168) lists his parents as Patrick Lang, no occupation recorded and Mary Fallon. His baptismal sponsors are listed as Michael Lang and Winifred Fallon. Thomas Lang came to the U.S. in 1860 and served in the American Civil War until wounded. Thomas Lang died 24 Feb 1903. He married Sara Norton, who died Feb. 27, 1930 in Minneapolis. Both are buried in the Lang family lot in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Owatonna, Minn. The headstone identifies Thomas as a veteran of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR.)
Thomas Lang and Sarah Norton had the following children:

1. Nellie Lang; born in June 1870 in (Waseca) Owatonna. The 1910 census lists Ellen Lang, age 39, a trained nurse as head of household in a house in St. Paul, Ward 4. Her brothers Joseph P. age 28 and Michael G. Lang, age 25, are living with her. Joseph and Michael listed their occupation as traveling salesmen (nursery). Also listed in Ellen Lang’s home were four roomers; William Harrison, Clara McBrayne, Nellie Deff and August Glassberg. Ellen and died in Minneapolis.
2. William “Willie” Lang; born about 1873 (Waseca) in Owatonna and died in St. Paul. He worked for years for the Jewel Nursery Co., and for Cashman Nursery Company at Owatonna and later in St. Paul. The 1930 census shows William Lang, age 57 (58) living in St. Paul with his wife Ellen, age 57, sons Thomas B., age 27, William, age 26 and Joseph, age 22 as well as a daughter Mary, age 16. William’s occupation is listed as retail nursery salesman. He was married to Ellen ________. She was born in Minnesota and her father was from Northern Ireland and her mother from Ireland.
William Lang and Ellen ____ had the following children:
1).

3. Andrew Lang. Born during December 1877 in Owatonna. He married Kathrine (Kathryn) Cashman, daughter of Edward Cashman and ___ Welch of the Cashman Nursery Company on November 24, 1908. He died on 27 June 1946 in Owatonna, Steele County and is buried in Owatonna.
Andrew Lang and Kathryn Cashman had the following children:
1). Edmond Andrew Lang (1909-1991);
2). Richard L. Lang (1911-1992);
3). Elliot Lang (1912-1994);
4). Mary Kathryn Lang (1917-1997);
5). Helen Sarah Patricia Lang (1922-2007).
4. Joseph P. Lang. Born in Owatonna during March 1881 and died in Minneapolis. He was married and had a family but we have no record of them.
5. Michael Lang; born during February 1887; (1890 census); not listed in Brother Bonaventure’s paper.
6. John (Jack) Lang. He was born during November 1888 in Owatonna. He was described by Brother Bonaventure as “a real character”. It is not known when or where he died.
7. Arthur Lang. Born during December 1889 in Owatonna. Was a Real Estate agent. He died in California.
8. Sadie (Vera) Lang. Born during April 1892 in Owatonna. Died in Calif.
She married rather late.
